Yes, empathic communication can be part of verbal communication, adding a tremendous emotional hit to whatever is being said. Sometimes the words are counter to the empathic communication, causing strange internal reactions. For example, "How great I feel!" when the empathic communication is telling the other person you are in tremendous pain. The receiver of this mis-match reacts physically to the pain as if it were happening to her, not the other person, and has no idea why suddenly she is in pain.
